The Basics

Story Block NFTs are available to mint in a reverse Dutch auction. This means they will start at a 0.111 ETH and reduce over 2 hours of time until the price of the auction reaches 0 ETH. This allows for some time for ideas to percolate and simmer all the while congruently allowing those who are more certain to publish their narrative at a premium. The writer who is looking to publish their sentence will type in their contribution in the input area “continue the journey...” with a minimum of 5 characters and a maximum of 193 characters and then will click 'add line' to mint the sentence. The “current price” listed underneath the 'add line' mint button is constantly updating to the current auction price to mint a Story Block NFT.

The Complexities

The minting of Story Block NFTs was designed with the idea that if this contract were to be duplicated on an EVM L2 that the timeline concept introduced by Story Block can be reiterated. For these reasons, the smart contract was developed to check the timestamp of when a block passes. Due to this, the length of time between blocks becomes irrelevant as this creates a limiting variable that is based on a set amount of time between each NFT mint.
